Off the back of an electrifying east-coast tour, Adelaide pop-punk duo TOWNS reveal ‘Speak For Myself’ – the latest taster from their upcoming EP Things You Might Feel Sometimes to be released on 18 November.
TOWNS’ Dan and Aston say of ‘Speak For Myself’, “There’s no hiding behind what this song is about, social anxiety. Now I love my friends and being around people from time to time, but there have been moments where I’ve been in situations meeting new people and I lose all sense of my personality and it destroys my confidence. I’m so aware of everything I’m doing, I try to be funny to break the ice but it never works, I try to talk about topics I know nothing about to slide in and it just sucks. So I wrote a song about it, everyone can relate to this in some matter because we’ve all felt like we don’t fit in at one point or another and it sucks because I think once you acknowledge the awkwardness it tends to disappear, but for some reason we’re conditioned to be social and conversational experts or we’re the awkward ones, well you’re not alone, I’m bad at talking too.”
The new single comes amidst a packed schedule for the Adelaide duo who are currently on tour with Brisbane locals Beddy Rays. The self-proclaimed “two-piece puzzle” have no plans of slowing it down any time soon, set to play The Drop Festival and Harvest Rock later this year.
Blending the essence of modern pop-punk with 90’s nostalgia ‘Speak For Myself’ is another sneak peek into what’s yet to come from the duo’s upcoming EP ‘Things You Might Feel Sometimes’ dropping on 18 November.
The new music follows on from the duo’s most recent single and video for ‘Season 5 (Break My Fall)’ and exciting signing with Farmer and the Owl/BMG, home to the likes of Hockey Dad, Moaning Lisa, Bad//Dreems and more.
In 2018, TOWNS released their debut EP Television, which swept listeners off their feet from the first spin with its unique blend of 90s pop rock and Australiana. Proving they love all things 90’s, the duo have even created a YouTube series TOWNS TV, hosting their own nostalgic TV show drawing inspiration from the ever-popular Cheez TV that captivated young Australian’s during the late 90’s. The duo has been named ‘Best Rock Group’ three years running for the South Australian Music Awards.
TOWNS continue to deliver their good-time vibes with their live shows, having joined fellow Adelaideans Teenage Joans on a sold out co-headline tour, they also hit the road for their own headline shows and supporting Ruby Fields, playing to packed out venues and bringing the high octane energy they are known for. This is in addition to supports for The Jungle Giants, WAAX, Bugs, Dear Seattle among many others. They have also been regulars on the festival circuit appearing on the bills of Yours & Owls Festival, Groovin The Moo, Falls Festival, NYE on the Hill and Spin Off Festival.
