Introducing ‘RUN BOY’, Charbel’s soul-stirring new single and music video

Charbel has reemerged this year with a new track & clip in tow – the mesmerising single ‘Run Boy’. The new release comes off the back of recent performances at BIGSOUND in Brisbane, and Yours & Owls Festival in Wollongong, which saw Charbel stun crowds with his ever-impressive vocals, new live band set-up & onstage persona.

‘Run Boy’ is the first taste of new music from Charbel since the release of the colourful mixtape ‘GARDENIA AVE.’, which dropped in mid 2022 and saw international appreciation, including an addition to the global Fresh Finds Spotify playlist, and love and support on home ground from triple j Unearthed and community radio alike.

Not one to lay low quietly, Charbel quickly returned to writing and working on more music, resulting in a collection of tracks recorded at The Gallery at BMG Australia with longtime collaborator Finbar Stuart.
In the world of music, there are melodies that entertain, lyrics that inspire, and songs that touch the very depths of the soul. ‘Run Boy’ is one such song, a captivating anthem that tells the remarkable story of a young soul’s quest to escape and seek liberation from the burdens and adversities that weighed heavily on his heart.

Speaking about the new track, Charbel shares that, “the song’s poignant lyrics remind us that it’s okay to run away from the things that don’t nourish our souls, that it’s essential to prioritise our well-being and mental health. ‘Run Boy’ encourages us to embrace our vulnerability, face our fears, and find the strength within, to run toward a brighter future.”

The magic of ‘Run Boy’ doesn’t end with the song itself, the release also marks the unveiling of visuals that perfectly complements the song’s emotional depth & intensity. In the chaotic world of music video production, the filming of the clip was nothing short of a whirlwind adventure. Conceived as a visual companion, this four-minute video was captured in a mere 20 minutes using only the second take as the final, defying the conventional norms of music video shoots. Shot in Charbel’s hometown of Shellharbour, with a skeleton crew consisting of just a driver and dedicated film, the production aimed to encapsulate the essence of urgency and spontaneity. The plot centres around a boy’s impulsive decision to run away, and the filming process mirrored this impetuosity.

Run Boy’ is more than just a song; it’s a testament to the human spirit’s resilience, and the transformative power of music. It also ushers in the new era of music from Charbel, with plenty more gems to be unearthed within the next year.
