The Silhouette Label (distributed by Farmer & The Owl) today introduces young artist Alara Livingstone with her debut single Because Of You.
Alara is a proud seventeen year old Yuin woman residing in the Wollongong region who was first discovered by Shining Bird member and Silhouette label partner Russell Webster while working as part of a songwriting mentor program at her high school in 2023. Instantly impressed by some of the songs she was writing and her voice that had a unique sense of melody well beyond her years, Russell dedicated time over the next year to help Alara develop her music in the studio.
“What appealed to me straight away was the amount of space she was leaving on the song. It reminded me of where we arrived with Shining Bird after many years of writing. But she was doing this from the outset” states Webster. “I think that’s why I sensed my production might be a fit with this song. It feels to me as if the song itself is a place, and I could start painting a backdrop, sonically speaking” he continues.
After making her live debut at some Silhouette showcases during 2024, Alara now steps up with her first single release, describing the meaning behind the release, “The idea for ‘Because Of You’ came about because that sort of loss— the one of losing a loved one through the mere act of you or them moving away —is actually quite complex, and I think oftentimes very overlooked because obviously they’re not dead, but there’s still that grief and mourning over the loss of their presence that lingers. It’s those kinds of feelings and emotions that I find the most interesting to tap into and write about, especially because there are so many people in the world that can relate to it.”
