Today, Moaning Lisa share their enthralling sophomore album, ‘fainter’, out via Farmer & The Owl / BMG. After releasing a string of beloved singles throughout the year, including the title track ‘fainter’, ‘wayside’, and ‘4am (where have you been?)’, their full sonic growth is unveiled with the 11 track record.
‘fainter’ was recorded throughout the end of 2023, where Moaning Lisa worked primarily with their longtime producer & collaborator, Ben Moore (Montaigne, Finn Brothers, Cloud Control), alongside working with Anna Laverty (Stella Donnelly, Camp Cope) to produce a couple of the tracks. A collection of the songs were workshopped and refined during live shows, including on support slots for Ride, and Sly Withers. The band’s supportive community of fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of these tracks, in particular ‘de facto’, which received its live debut when Moaning Lisa supported Midnight Oil.
‘fainter’ offers Moaning Lisa’s most diverse, intricate, and exciting work to date. From the driving Bloc Party-esque track ‘de facto’, the intimate & stripped back ‘flower’, to ‘flutey’, the downtempo electronic number that feels as though it could fit easily into a crossover world of Radiohead and The XX.
Speaking of the release of their sophomore album, the band shares that “we are so proud of the world we’ve created with ‘fainter’, a world we’ve thoroughly enjoyed revelling in. This record touches on our deepest, most difficult feelings and we really pushed ourselves outside of our comfort zone with our songwriting and recording process. We believe this is the best music we’ve ever made and we’re just so ecstatic to finally be able to share it with everyone.”
For Naarm/Melbourne based fans, the four-piece will be hosting an intimate album launch show at Shotkickers, Thornbury, this evening. For those further away from the band’s homebase, Moaning Lisa will be hitting up numerous record stores across New South Wales, the ACT, and Victoria over the coming weekends, to touch base with their loyal fanbase and celebrate their new album.
They’ll also be playing a free headline set at North Gong Hotel in Wollongong, on Dec 1st, before they kick off their ‘fainter’ Album Tour in February and March of 2025. The tour will see them play to crowds in Sydney, Newcastle, Canberra, Brisbane and Melbourne.
